Overview
Years ago, Commerce Township was considered an “up north” destination for many Detroit area residents. People would travel to Commerce to get away from the busy city life and enjoy the tranquil lakes and atmosphere that Commerce has to offer. Fast forward to today, and Commerce is a growing northwest suburb of Detroit, however you can still see some of the up north, lake style cottages around town.
From the excellent Walled Lake Consolidated Schools, to the beautiful lakes, golf courses, and parks, Commerce Township is a popular destination to call home. Commerce is not only a scenic suburb, but also offers the convenience of Martin Parkway and the M-5 expressway. The M-5 expressway connects you to I-696, I-275, or I-96, getting you virtually anywhere in Metro Detroit. A trip to downtown Detroit can be made in less than an hour. Commerce Township is surrounded by several popular and growing communities. To the west is Milford, to the south is Novi, to the east is West Bloomfield, and to the north is Clarkston. Commerce Township has competitive property taxes when compared to the surrounding communities. The $100 million Five & Main project plans to bring a vibrant, much needed downtown entertainment district to our community.
